The scientific council is made up of nine members (two representatives of each of the three universities, the vice president of the Italian Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research, one representative of the Ministry of Education, University and Research, one representative of the Ministry of Cultural and Environmental Heritage) and has the task to decide upon the general directions of activities of the Museo and to approve the programmes and annual reports of every section of the Museo.

The board of directors is made up of the administrative directors of the three universities, the directors of the three sections and the President of the Scientific Council and has the task to approve the budget and the final balance of the Museo.

The directors of the three sections are nominated by the scientific council and have the following tasks:

• promote, coordinate and supervise the activities of the section;
• submit the budget and final balance of the section to the Board of directors;
• submit, every year, a report on activities carried out and a programme of future activites to the scientific council.
